Radovan reaffirms energy transition support during Indonesia visit

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Germany's Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reem Alabali Radovan reaffirmed Germany's commitment to supporting Indonesia's energy transition during her visit to the country.

Radovan, who oversees Germany's development cooperation with Indonesia and Germany's co-leadership of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), visited Indonesia from Aug. 18 to 20 with a business delegation comprising companies operating in the sustainable energy sector.

"During my visit, I want to launch new partnerships with the Indonesian government and German companies, and make it easier for German companies to access the Indonesian market. Through development cooperation, we are supporting Indonesia in its energy transition," she said after visiting Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Radovan said Indonesia was a key partner for Germany and one of nine new focus countries with which Germany wants to deepen cooperation, particularly by strengthening ties with German businesses through development policy.

Strengthening economic cooperation would benefit both sides, she said, allowing Indonesia to accelerate sustainable development while Germany strengthens its economy.

“We are investing in renewable energy and modern electricity grids. This contributes to climate protection, creates new jobs in Indonesia and offers new opportunities for German companies. Both countries will benefit from closer cooperation,” she said.

German Ambassador to Indonesia Ralf Beste said Germany had much to offer Indonesia and that Radovan's visit highlighted Germany's contribution to energy and sustainability.

“The visit demonstrates that Germany is not only politically committed to Indonesia's energy transition, it also has technical solutions ready,” he said.

Before visiting Istiqlal Mosque, Radovan opened Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week (ISEW) 2026, a flagship conference for Germany-Indonesia cooperation in the energy sector. The event brings together policymakers, development partners, the private sector, academics and civil society.

The JETP was launched in 2022 to mobilize financing to accelerate Indonesia's clean energy transition and facilitate the deployment of affordable, clean energy that delivers tangible benefits to the Indonesian economy.

Germany, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Japan, Norway, the United Kingdom and the European Union are members of the International Partners Group (IPG), which has committed to supporting Indonesia's JETP through development financing.
