Prabowo nominates Destry as permanent Bank Indonesia governor to DPR

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has sent a Presidential Letter to the House of Representatives (DPR RI) nominating the Acting Governor of Bank Indonesia, Destry Damayanti, to become the definitive Governor of Bank Indonesia.

The letter was submitted by State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi to the DPR RI leadership this Monday.

According to him, Destry is the sole nominee proposed by the president for the position of BI Governor.

"It is a single nomination, Mrs. Destry Damayanti. She currently serves as the acting governor. Tomorrow, the DPR leadership will certainly announce this," Hadi said after submitting the letter at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta.

The letter regarding the BI Governor nomination was handed to DPR RI Speaker Puan Maharani and Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad.

Along with that letter, Prabowo also proposed candidates to replace the Senior Deputy Governor of BI and a Deputy Governor of BI, as the current number of Deputy Governors is short by one person, Hadi informed.

Despite submitting a single name, he stated that the government leaves it entirely to the DPR RI to process the proposed names in accordance with applicable mechanisms, regulations, and laws.

Destry is currently serving as the Acting Governor of BI following Perry Warjiyo's resignation from the position in July 2026.

Earlier, Hadi informed that Destry's appointment as Acting Governor of BI was carried out in accordance with the mechanisms outlined in Law Number 23 of 1999 concerning Bank Indonesia as amended several times, most recently by Law Number 4 of 2026 regarding Amendments to Law Number 4 of 2023 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector.

Meanwhile, the Chief Economist at Trimegah Sekuritas Indonesia, Fakhrul Fulvian, considers Destry's appointment to be the right choice for maintaining monetary policy continuity.

According to Fakhrul, Destry is a monetary technocrat with comprehensive experience spanning academia, financial markets, the banking sector, the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), and the central bank.
